When: Open Enrollment happens every year between November 1 and January 15. However, if you have a life change or income changes, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period throughout the year. If you qualify for MaineCare, you can enroll any time of the year.
Where: Online, by phone, with help from free, local brokers or assisters, or with a paper application.
How: Follow these steps to enroll:
- Set up an account on CoverME.gov and fill out the application with information about you and your household (e.g., address, birth dates, SSNs, and best estimate of your income for 2025).
- CoverME.gov will let you know if you qualify for financial savings to help lower your monthly costs.
- Using the Plan Compare Tool, you can look at plans side-by-side and compare them based on your needs like seeing if your doctors and prescription drugs are covered, and estimated costs of your monthly premium and other out of pocket expenses for the services you expect to use.
- Pick a plan that fits your needs and budget.
- Pay your monthly premium directly to the insurance company.
